How we handle personal data when you discover, organise, and attend dance events.
Last updated: February 2, 2026
Welcome to El Barrio App. This Privacy Policy explains how El Barrio App VOF processes personal data when you use our platform.
This policy is provided for transparency under European data protection law. Please read it together with any organiser's privacy policy for events you attend.
El Barrio App VOF ("El Barrio App", "we") is the controller for personal data processed through our platform when we determine the purposes and means of processing. Some processing is performed by event organisers as separate controllers (see "Sharing & Organisers").
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal data when you create an account, browse events, buy tickets, organise events, or otherwise use our website and apps.
When you create an account we collect details such as your name, email address, password hash, optional phone number, and profile preferences (e.g., favourite dance styles).
If you register for or buy tickets to an event, we process details needed to deliver the service (e.g., ticket type, order ID, attendance/check-in status). Payment card details are processed by our payment provider, not stored on our servers.
We collect technical data such as IP address, device/browser information, app events, and basic logs to keep the platform secure, prevent fraud, and diagnose issues.
If you organise events, we process additional data such as organisation name, payout/settlement details (where applicable), and event management activity.
We process personal data to create and manage your account, enable event discovery, issue tickets, send transactional messages (e.g., confirmations), and provide customer support. This is generally necessary to perform our contract with you.
We process logs, device identifiers, and order signals to secure accounts, detect abusive behaviour, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations (e.g., bookkeeping/tax rules where applicable).
We analyse aggregated usage patterns and feedback to improve features, performance, and reliability. Where possible, we use privacy-friendly settings and minimise identifiers.
If you subscribe, we send newsletters and promotional messages. You can opt out at any time. Where consent is required, we'll ask first (and keep a record).
We only place non-essential cookies (e.g., analytics/marketing) after you choose your preferences via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent any time.
When you register for an event, we share the information needed to run that event with the organiser (typically your name, ticket/order details, and contact details if required for event communications). Organisers may process your data as independent controllers under their own policies.
We use vetted vendors (e.g., hosting, email delivery, payment processing, analytics). They act as processors under contract and may only process data on our instructions.
We may disclose data if required by law or to respond to valid requests from public authorities, or to protect users, our rights, and platform integrity.
If we undergo a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users where legally required.
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including access controls, logging, encryption in transit, and least-privilege permissions.
Payments are handled by PCI-compliant payment providers. We do not store full payment card details on our servers.
No system is 100% secure. If something goes wrong, we'll act quickly to contain it and notify affected users and authorities where required by law.
You have the right to request access, rectification, deletion, restriction, portability, and to object to certain processing (including profiling based on legitimate interests).
Where we rely on consent (e.g., marketing or non-essential cookies), you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.
If you think we mishandled your data, you can contact us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority.
We use essential cookies needed for core functionality (e.g., login, security). Optional cookies (analytics/marketing) are only used if you opt in via our cookie banner.
If enabled, analytics helps us understand platform usage. We aim to minimise data and configure analytics as privacy-friendly as possible.
You can change cookie preferences at any time via our cookie settings link (or in-app privacy settings), and you can also clear cookies in your browser.
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above. For example: account data is retained while your account is active; transaction records may be retained longer to meet legal obligations (e.g., accounting). We apply deletion/anonymisation routines when data is no longer needed.
If we use providers outside the EEA, we only transfer personal data using appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) and, where required, supplementary measures.
El Barrio App is not intended for children under 16. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under 16 without valid authorisation by a parent/guardian (where applicable), we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will post the updated version here and update the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we may provide additional notice where required.
